When to use Just Pick For Me

The case for letting it decide, and the two situations where it is clearly the right call.

Just Pick For Me is not a beginner mode. It is the mode that makes the decisions you have no information about, which is most of them for most people most weeks.

It is clearly right when

  • You have no strong opinion. Building anyway with invented convictions is worse than letting the mathematics fill in the parts you are guessing at.
  • You are short of time. A slate, a lineup count, one button.
  • You want several genuinely different portfolios. Build, save, build again. Each run explores a different plausible version of the slate, so you can enter more than one shape of bet rather than one shape 150 times.
  • You want a starting point to argue with. Its exposure list is the fastest way to discover what you actually think — you will find you disagree about two or three players, and those disagreements are worth more than an hour of staring at projections.

What it will not do

  • It will not know about news that broke after your player list was downloaded.
  • It will not know about a contest structure you are specifically targeting.
  • It will not know that you refuse to roster a particular player. Tell it.
  • It will not give you the same portfolio twice unless you pin the seed — by design.

Using it well

  1. Build once with no rules at all and read the exposure list.
  2. Add rules only where you genuinely disagree. Usually two or three, not twenty.
  3. Build again. Save both and Compare them, so you can see precisely what your rules changed rather than guessing.
  4. If you want a second, differently-shaped portfolio for the same contest, press New random build and save that too.

Everything it chose is reported in the panel above your results, in sentences, with reasons. If it made a decision you disagree with, you will be able to see that it made it — automatic does not mean mysterious.

Try it on a real slate
